Close Match? No Way: Federer Demolishes Roddick

Roger Federeradmin25 January 2007

Boy was I wrong on the Andy Roddick-Roger Federer tussle. I set the alarm extra early, and thanks to Roger I was only up an hour or so before I went back to sleep mid way thru the third set. After waking up not too long ago and seeing the final score, guess I didn’t miss much in the last few games.
So much for Andy Roddick keeping it close. Roger Federer simply blasted Roddick, and that’s putting it nicely. Really nicely.
I thought once Andy broke back in that first set things would settle in. Roger wasn’t playing great nor was Andy, but Roger seemed to be a bit more off racking up a few more errors than normal. Then around 4-4 things went south for Andy in a hurry as Roger decided enough was enough.
Wow.
Roger reels off what, 10 straight games (breakfast bagel included) and I’m back in bed. […]

Super Roger comes out to play

Roger Federeradmin25 January 2007

Andy Roddick might as well not have turned up to play the Australian Open semi final against Roger Federer tonight such was the dominance shown by the world no. 1. Roddick got off to a bad start when broken in the first game of the first set. From there it was all down hill. The only positive was that Roddick was 100 per cent on break point conversions. The only problem was the he was 1 of 1 while Federer was 7 of 7.
Even though Federer served at 51 per cent he totally dominated the match. He hit 45 winners to 12 errors compared to 11 winners to 18 errors from Roddick. The American could not cope with the power and variety of Federer’s shot making. At one stage Roddick almost had an air swing such was his state of mind.
Even though Federer totally dominated the match tonight it will […]

Federer has tough straight sets win over Robredo

Roger Federeradmin23 January 2007

Roger Federer has made it into his 11th straight grand slam semi-final following his straight sets win over Tommy Robredo. This was not a regulation victory for Federer as he was actually made to work hard for the victory. The final score was 6-3, 7-6, 7-5.
In the first set Robredo broke Federer on several occasions, although this was not enough to win the set. Both players struggled to cope with windy conditions on the Rod Laver Arena centre court until the wind died down in the second set.
The second set saw Robredo taking it to Federer and we saw the set go to a tie break which Federer was easily able to win to take a two sets to love lead. The third set started with some breaks of serve before both players settled into a rythym and after some good play we found the score at 6-5 in […]

Federer marches on at Australian Open

Roger Federeradmin19 January 2007

On a day that has seem limited action due to rain Roger Federer has continued on his path to the Australian Open tennis title with a straight sets win over 2006 US Open semi finalist Mikhael Youzhny.
Federer got an early break in the first set and that was all that was needed to win the set. The toughest game for Federer came when he was serving for the set. He was taken to deuce three times before winning the game to claim the set 6-3. The second set was much the same with Federer this time breaking Youzhny’s serve in the first game of the set. Federer broke again in the eighth game to win the second set 6-3.
The third set saw Federer once again jump out to an early lead with a service break in the second game of the set. It now looked as though […]
